Dave Glaser, guitar and vocals:
Dave started playing guitar in his teens – at the height of the popularity of the 1980s hair bands. He honed his chops by playing throughout his college days at the University of South Florida in Tampa, covering songs from bands like Night Ranger, Scorpions, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen and other guitar-slinging heavy rockers. When Dave completed his journalism degree in 1988 and started working as a reporter/editor (Sarasota Herald-Tribune and St. Petersburg Times), he put the guitar away to focus on career goals. He rediscovered the instrument about six years ago and is now having the time of his life playing with HWY 41. The singer/songwriter has played throughout Florida for a number of years, primarily with the band Blue Logic, which ultimately disbanded following the release of its second CD. In addition to his solid bass work, Jeff provides lead and backing vocals, and has penned HWY 41’s early originals - including the rousing crowd favorite Til the Place Falls Down. Jeff’s also a talented and experienced sound engineer who is handling much of the recording and mixing duties for the band’s debut CD. Send Jeff an email at: bassjeff@hwy41rocks.com.Mike Rettig, lead guitar and vocals: Much of HWY 41’s sound revolves around Mike’s dynamic lead guitar work. A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Mike started playing music about the age of 9, thanks to the influence of his mother, a piano teacher. Once he picked up the guitar, he was hooked. Although Mike lists Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Cray and Eddie Van Halen among his favorite players and influences, he never spent too much time learning music note by note. Instead, Mike just plays what feels right for the song, which has been a key to HWY 41’s unique reworking of several familiar hits. He built his local reputation in six years with Bradenton-area favorite Almost Famous, but has found a real showcase in the more powerful rock style of the HWY 41 gang. For motivation, he credits the owners of the local clubs that feature live bands and the great people who come out, have a good time and are always responsive to the music. Send Mike an email at: guitarmike@hwy41rocks.com.Dave Russell, drums and vocals: Dave brings years of experience – and some great road stories – to HWY 41. He grew up just outside Toronto, Ontario and started playing drums at age 9 with a military style drum corps. Forty years later, he is still banging away. Dave played with several different bands in Canada during the 1970s and 80s, doing both original music and covers. He spent nearly five years on the road touring before deciding to pursue a more stable lifestyle. Dave moved to Florida in 1994, married his wife Kay in 1996 and, together with their son Tyler, they have been running two family restaurants ever since – Rotten Ralph’s on Anna Maria Island and Bradenton Beach. Dave comes from a long line of musicians though, and music is in his blood, so he had to keep playing – first with Almost Famous, then Midnight Alibi and now, HWY 41. In addition to his drumming and backing vocal duties, Dave also handles many of the band’s booking and business/promotional dealings. Send Dave an email at: drumdave@hwy41rocks.com. |
